Late Summer Fun Family Session at Fort Independence Park - Castle Island Boston MA
Keila, The mom of this awesome family reached out to me because she wanted to get some beautiful portraits of the family. We set a date to meet at their home so we could plan their session and design their session.
I enjoyed dreaming with her and building on her vision for the session. We discussed their attire and picked out some outfits for both boys mom and dad. When all was said and done they picked neutral colors that complimented each other well and some pops of color that would coordinate with the wall she intended to hang the wall portraits on. Well Done Keila I love the outfits they picked.
Next was picking a location, the contenders were either their yard at home or Castle Island and we settled for Castle Island since the family has a special connection with the location and it would be a perfect location for the boys to watch the passing planes as they get ready to land at Logan airport while still providing a lot of Rich history to Boston and open space for the boys to enjoy themselves.
Castle Island is a Peninsula in South Boston on the shore of Boston Harbor. In 1928 Castle Island was connected to the mainland by a narrow strip of land and is thus no longer an Island. Its been the site of a fortification since 1634 and is currently a 22 acre recreation site and the location of fort Independence.
We started by walking by Sullivan's Castle Island then headed towards the water. We took some photographs by the water and shortly after photographing the boys throwing the rocks into the harbor nature called for big brother and dad left with him just in time for little brother to spot the Holland America line Cruise ship passing through the harbor he was so mesmerized to see such a big ship.
Next stop was in the alley alongside the trees besides Fort Independence The goal was to get a family picture with Fort Independence on the side but we didn’t expect an audience being as crowded as it was eventually we decided to move on which was great because we did find a good spot that was less crowded and eventually managed a shot with part of the fort behind us.
It was a beautiful late summer evening and the boys enjoyed playing with sand and water on Carson’s Beach and we took some photographs of the family. We had such a beautiful sunset and looking Beyond the water into Boston’s skyline was such a treat.
We of course wrapped up the session with the boys enjoying their promised ice cream cones at Sullivan's at Castle Island. I love candid's and this type of session definitely offers plenty of opportunity to capture much spontaneous sweetness of little brother who was eager to help big brother put on his socks.
As the sun was setting and the boys settled we took some time to focus on mom and dad shots. Seraphine Photography takes pride in setting aside sometime at each family session for mom and dad because as a Randolph and Boston Family Photographer and parent myself I know how precious those moments between mom and dad those portraits are just as important as those of your children and family.
Keila had mentioned an interest in wall art for their entryway so I made sure to plan for individual portraits of the boys and mom and dad She selected a cluster for their wall and wanted traditional finish prints in frames so once the prints were done we found some beautiful frames that would compliment the room and other finishes in the space. Once the portraits were installed on the wall they look like they had been there all along she's received so many compliments on her wall arrangements and she loves walking into the house to see her family as the first thing when she opens the door but also while sitting in the living room couch she gets to enjoy her wall art everyday.
